Fraud Prevention Initiative
You can help stop or deter fraud in Mercer County !
If you suspect the following:
- Suspected theft or misuse of County equipment, property or cash
- Submission of illegitimate vendor invoices
- Misrepresentation of expense or travel reimbursements
- Misrepresentation of tax dollars
- Spending in excess of what is reasonable or necessary
- Violations of County Policies
- Other suspected fraud or abuse
- Suspicious behavior relating to financial functions
You can help:
- U.S. Organizations lose an estimated 7% of their annual revenues to fraud.
- Governments are one of the most commonly victimized sectors.
- Organizations with fraud reporting resources, significantly cut their losses due to fraud.
- Fraud is more likely to be detected by a tip than by other means.
- For government entities who maintain fraud reporting resources, dollar amount losses were reduced, and duration of fraud have been reduced.
- Fraud and abuse are crimes everyone pays for.
- Significant losses due to fraud could mean:
- Increased taxes
- Decreased employee benefits
- Tighter department budgets
- Less services for citizens

You have the right to remain anonymous! However, if you allow us to contact you, we may be more successful in our investigation.
Information that can assist with our investigation:
- Gather as much of the following information as possible:
- Area where the fraud is occurring
- Person or persons involved
- Nature of the fraud or abuse
- Date or duration of occurrence(s)
- Approximate dollar amount or value involved
- Any other witnesses
