provided by a private company in association with the Mexican phone

The European Union (EU) has selected 112 as the Union's
official emergency number, and required member nations to implement it by
Dec. 1992. However, several countries, including England (999), already
had three-digit numbers and, since the EU directive, have continued to
operate them in parallel with the required 112 number. As yet, the EU has not
required nations to use only 112. The EU members are:
- Belgium
- Denmark
- Germany
- Greece
- Spain
- France
- Ireland
- Italy

- Luxemburg
- Netherlands
- Austria
- Portugal
- UK
- Sweden

In March 2001, Moscow officials announced that it would
adopt the three-digit number 051 for the city's law enforcement, fire and
EMS operations. The number will replace the 7-digit number 995-9999
previously used, and will eventually phase out the separate two-digit
numbers 01 (fires), 02 (police), 03 (ambulance) and 04 (gas lines). 3-11-2001 |
